Hitchhiking to Wien

Friday 27th

At 6 o'clock in the morning we got a pretty scary wake up. A dude was opening our tent zipper. Ofcourse it was forbidden to camp on the football field, so we had to move our tent to get some more sleep before leaving. So angry Janina started packing up her stuff. And stupid Mika was just taking photos for the blog.

Janina:
We argued a bit about the place, Mika would have wanted to go next to the river but I thought that it's no matter where do we sleep. Sorry my dear, I was awfull.
Mika:
She stopped carrying the tent suddenly in the middle of the park, I actully just wanted to go more near the forest and river not to draw as much attention to our illegal camping. But at that time with just a couple hours of sleep its easy to get into an argument. So sorry back at you Dear.

After waking up again luckily by our selves, not by some police etc. We found a really nice place to go for a morning wash. Or actually Mika told me having found it already in the evening. There were nice big rocks, like in the Spa, and the water was quite clear (comparing to Aurariver in Turku).

This time it was a bit hard to find a good place to lift. On the way to a better road we stopped in Biandronka to buy some breakfast. I was so happy that we still got darkbread from Finland with us. Coffee we got from the gasstation, where unfortunately the internet wasn't available. But finally we bought the map of Europe, just in case we run out of Debian phones or electricity. (I took N9 and the N900 with us)

To Mika:
We got a ride a while later from there to a town called Tychy from Mariusz. He was extremely helpfull, he even gave us a ride to the post office so we could send the 3g/4g internet card back to Bartosz. (Thanks again Bartosz for that)

He showed us some local sights on the way.

We also asked on the Radio for possible rides towards the border of Poland and Checz. Thank you Mariusz!

In Tychy we wanted to show to the people what Finnish people are like.

We made a lot of acrobatics and a while later, when my neck was getting a bit sore, we got saved by a Catholic Priest traveling to Checz. He spoke only deutch so our language skills went to the test again. Well we managed to keep the conversation going. (I was sitting in the back and Mika was translating almost everything to me. But when we stopped to buy something to drink he came really close and asked for me "Russian?". Well, I know Mika is older than me, but no, he didn't buy me from there) He seemed to like us. Possibly it helped that I told a little white lie when he asked in which church we belong to. I answered evangelic luterian when ateist would have been more true. He was really nice as he stopped for nice scenery pictures even though we were on a big autobahn. Well most of the sceneries where really nice churches and castles.

We crossed the border to Checz and noticed that it was the first border we crossed together on HH. Aww. Had to get a picture of it. Eventhough I had to satisfy for a picture of the road tul before the border because "no pics on borders" policy.

When we got near to his destination we tried to tell him to drop us near a gasstation. He kept on driving after his exit went by and took us about 30 km more to a better place for HH towards Wien. There happened to be another couple HHing there already so I told Janina we would wait our turn. She ran to ask them what was their destination. When she came back the girl came also to ask for a ride from our priest. He couldn't help as he was already 30 km over his destination.

We went in to try the Checz coffee. And ofcourse we had the wrong currency. But luckily she took our Euros and gave back some of the Checz money. Actually she took my ten and gave back a hundretthirty with the coffees taken into account. I felt happy with that.

The other couple got a ride while we were busy making our cartboards and drinking coffees. So we headed to the start of the turning lane again.

Back to Janina:

Mika hadn't even time to eat our tasty fruits when we got a ride from Daniel. Daniel was a funny guy and he was the first one who asked our ages. He had also tried hitchhiking and so was very pleased to help us, even though he had only a chance to take us to a better HH place. Or I wasn't so sure was it a better place because the cars were driving so fast in there.

But we were lucky and got a ride all the way to Wien from a guy. (I am sad to have lost his name but email we have so not lost forever.) He was going there to meet his girlfriend as he had holidays going on. He had studied architecture and now worked in a company making walls besides the roads to reduce noice.

It was a nice ride because he wanted to drive trough those little towns of Austria, by the little roads that crossed beautiful hills. We stopped in a small town for some walking and a cigaretto for the driver. Well actually we also stopped for a peeing/ cigaret break on the countryside.

We got to Wien at midnight and started to look for a place to sleep. We couldn't put up a tent in the middle of the town. It was hard enough, and I think we visited in every McDonals in Wien during that night to find the internet connection. (First one was broken the second wasn't existant...)

And I fell asleep in a Burger King. (While I (Mika) were looking for couches and Hostels on the wlan)

We couldn't find any hostel nearby or a couch. So we ended up sleeping in a hotel. It wasn't expencive but we missed a chance to meet nice local travellers and Couchsurfers.

Good night from Pension Hagita Wien.

PS. sorry for posting late as we have had trouble getting good internet and had to use the chances to post for couches and information.. But we will post a few more days quickly as we have written them already.
